If a person listens to Soorat al-Kahf on Friday,

.

Q: If a person listens to Soorat al-Kahf on Friday, will he have the same reward as the one who reads the soorah?
Does listening to Soorat al-Kahf on Friday bring the same reward as that of the one who reads it?

Praise be to Allah.

The reward that results from reading Soorat al-Kahf on Friday is only mentioned for the one who reads the soorah on that day. The Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “Whoever reads Soorat al-Kahf on Friday, Allah will bestow upon him light between those two Fridays.” Narrated by al-Bayhaqi; classed as saheeh by Shaykh al-Albaani (may Allah have mercy on him) in Saheeh al-Jaami‘.

It is well-known that the one who listens to a soorah is not regarded as having read it. Based on that, if a person wants the reward that is mentioned in the hadith, then he has to read Soorat al-Kahf, and it is not enough just to listen to it.

But if a person cannot read Qur’an well, so he listens to it being recited by someone else, seeking the reward that has been mentioned for that, then there is the hope that he will have the same reward as the one who reads it, because of his good intention and doing what he is able to do.

In the answer to question no. 10700 we have quoted the hadiths that speak of the virtue of reading Soorat al-Kahf. Please refer to this question for more information.

And Allah knows best.

Abu Dharr narrated that the Prophet (sallAllahu 'alayhi wa sallam) said: "Who teaches the first ten verses of Surah El Kahf,he is protected from Dajjal" (in another narration "Ten last verses") (Muslim)

The Prophet (sallAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) narrated: "Whoever recites Surah Kahf on the day of Juma, it becomes light of it between the two Fridays." (Narrated Hakim 2/399 and Bayhaqi 3/249)

• 018 - Suretul Al Kahf [10 Ayah of first and last] •
01. [All] praise is [due] to Allah, who has sent down upon His Servant the Book and has not made therein any deviance.
02. [He has made it] straight, to warn of severe punishment from Him and to give good tidings to the believers who do righteous deeds that they will have a good reward
03. In which they will remain forever
04. And to warn those who say, "Allah has taken a son."
05. They have no knowledge of it, nor had their fathers. Grave is the word that comes out of their mouths; they speak not except a lie.
06. Then perhaps you would kill yourself through grief over them, [O Muhammad], if they do not believe in this message, [and] out of sorrow.
07. Indeed, We have made that which is on the earth adornment for it that We may test them [as to] which of them is best in deed.
08. And indeed, We will make that which is upon it [into] a barren ground.
09. Or have you thought that the companions of the cave and the inscription were, among Our signs, a wonder?
10. [Mention] when the youths retreated to the cave and said, "Our Lord, grant us from Yourself mercy and prepare for us from our affair right guidance."
......
101. Those whose eyes had been within a cover [removed] from My remembrance, and they were not able to hear.
102. Then do those who disbelieve think that they can take My servants instead of Me as allies? Indeed, We have prepared Hell for the disbelievers as a lodging.
103. Say, [O Muhammad], "Shall we [believers] inform you of the greatest losers as to [their] deeds?
104. [They are] those whose effort is lost in worldly life, while they think that they are doing well in work."
105. Those are the ones who disbelieve in the verses of their Lord and in [their] meeting Him, so their deeds have become worthless; and We will not assign to them on the Day of Resurrection any importance.
106. That is their recompense - Hell - for what they denied and [because] they took My signs and My messengers in ridicule.
107. Indeed, those who have believed and done righteous deeds - they will have the Gardens of Paradise as a lodging,
108. Wherein they abide eternally. They will not desire from it any transfer.
109. Say, "If the sea were ink for [writing] the words of my Lord, the sea would be exhausted before the words of my Lord were exhausted, even if We brought the like of it as a supplement."
110. Say, "I am only a man like you, to whom has been revealed that your god is one God. So whoever would hope for the meeting with his Lord - let him do righteous work and not associate in the worship of his Lord anyone."
