The goal of the Islamic Online University (IOU) is to make Islamic and Islamized knowledge accessible to the global ummah (Muslim nation) in the easiest and most affordable way possible. 





The Islamic Online University (IOU) is the materialized vision of renowned Islamic scholar and educationalist, Dr. Bilal Philips.

As envisioned by him, the IOU aims to grant global access to quality undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate level education programs for students at virtually no cost.



The first step in fulfilling its mission to “Change the Nation through Education,” consisted of opening its virtual door with completely



free diploma courses in 2007, which are today available at the General Diploma in Islamic Studies section.



In 2010, the IOU enhanced its courses by adding an accredited BA in Islamic studies program based on a modified curriculum derived from those of the Islamic University of Madeenah, Saudi Arabia; Omdurman Islamic University, Sudan; and Al-Azhar University, Egypt.

Islamic Online University addressed this issue 10 years ago by introducing to the world the concept of COMPLETELY FREE EDUCATION by offering courses online for anyone who wished to learn about Islam.

I am a graduate of General Diploma Section of IOU. I live Cotabato City, Philippines and I am an Electronics Engineer by profession...I have two works at the same time, as a college instructor and technical vocational trainer/assessor...and am very busy with my work in the morning that I [barely] have some time for rest, because of the tight schedule in two schools...But while I was working, something [was] bothering my mind and heart, it seems like my nafs is asking me “Why is it that you have so much knowledge in worldly affairs, but you don’t have that much knowledge in Islam?” So I decided that aside from working, I also wanted to enroll to a madrasah or any Islamic school or find someone to teach me Islam. [However] the schedule just didn’t work because my job consumes all the time of the day. So I started searching the internet ... and tried many websites until I finally found Islamic Online University. At the very first course (Foundations of Islamic Studies I) I [was] very moved by the way Dr. Bilal Philips explained everything, and I felt in my heart that I should focus on this one because I know that I would learn things in this website.



Because of IOU, I have learned so many things about Islam, and I have realized that if you really want to learn, nothing is impossible because there are so many books, lectures, and other things that are available on the Internet. You just need to have a sincere intentions and search for it. IOU did a great thing of having a systematic approach in learning, it is so flexible that even though I don’t have much free time in the morning, I still can do the studying at night time, because everything is recorded, and now Alhamdulillah there are also some live sessions. The site has really evolved and Alhamdulillah it will become beneficial for others who wants to seek knowledge on Islam.
